ADD/ADHD Program

During the past twenty years, Excelsior Academy has provided the families of San Diego County with a school that meets the needs of children who have Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  This comprehensive and effective program includes:

• student to teacher classroom ratios of 6 students to 1 teacher
• daily social skills classes and character education integrated throughout the curriculum
• challenging and stimulating academic coursework
• a program that builds upon each student’s interests, strengths, and talents
• training in organizational skills, time management, and self-monitoring skills
• consistent rules and expectations with positive and constructive feedback
• opportunities that allow for short breaks from instructional time
• caring adults who provide choices in order for students to master self management
• strategies to help students stay on task, focus in class, and complete assignments
• support for those students who have difficulty with consistent attendance
• systematic approaches to increase self-esteem, confidence, and independence
• predictable schedules and structured activities with a multi-sensory approach
• consistent reinforcement of skills learned using cognitive behavior management
• a sports program with little emphasis on competition and more emphasis on cooperation
• supportive resources for parents
• communication with the child’s outside therapist as needed
• a tailored program to meet each student’s developmental needs
• an emphasis on long-term outcomes through goal setting and attainment
