Asperger Program
Excelsior Academy has a reputation for delivering a program of excellence to the children of San Diego County. For the past twenty years this tradition of excellence has brought about successful results for all types of children with unique learning profiles. One of our successful programs has quietly gained recognition for its accomplishments with children who have a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome. Excelsior Academy provides the following services for students with Asperger Syndrome:
• a safe and nurturing environment in which to thrive
• daily social skills classes and character education integrated throughout the curriculum
• life skills training, including skills in self-help, independence, and self-advocacy
• language development, communication skills training, and sensory motor integration
• speech/language and occupational therapists, as well as counselors, providing
individual, small group, and classroom services
• challenging and stimulating academic coursework
• a program that builds upon each student’s interests, strengths, and talents
• a sports program with little emphasis on competition and more emphasis on cooperation
• predictable schedules and structured activities with visual and graphic support
• consistent reinforcement of skills learned using cognitive behavior management

• communication with the child’s outside therapist as needed
• a tailored program to meet each student’s developmental needs
• an emphasis on long-term outcomes through goal setting and attainment
