Leadership

Jane Lea Smith & Mancy MacnamaraAt Excelsior Academy, we believe that collaboration is the key to student achievement.  With that in mind, we have adopted a hands-on approach to leadership and foster an environment in which all team members work together for the benefit of the students. In keeping with our collaborative approach, whenever possible, schoolwide decisions are made based on input from all members of the professional team.  As a result, policies are supported by all, morale is high, and consistency is enhanced.

Staff Involvement

As experienced educators ourselves, we are directly involved in the students’ programs in a variety of ways. We work with all staff members throughout the school year to assist in assessment, lesson planning, IEP writing, problem solving, behavioral monitoring and delivery of instruction.  Through our work with both students and staff, we have a good understanding of each student’s strengths, needs and accomplishments.

School Improvement Council (SIC)

The staff and students of Excelsior Academy are further supported by the School Improvement Council (SIC), a small group comprised of veteran representatives from all segments of the school staff.  The SIC meets weekly, or more often when needed, to review school policies and to plan professional development activities.  The existence of this group provides an additional outlet for staff and students to express their ideas and concerns.

Professional Team

As directors, we are proud to be part of a team of professionals whose student-centered focus produces such outstanding results.  Excelsior Academy is truly a special place to work and learn.
