Congratulations on a job well done! |
Excelsior Seniors face many challenges during their high school years which culminate in a final year of expectations and activities. Examples of these include:
Senior Exhibitions – Once a student enters high school at EA, they become aware of the senior exhibition requirement. As juniors, they are invited to attend at least one senior exhibition. The requirements for a senior exhibition at Excelsior include: an interview with school leadership; essays and graphic representations documenting the schoolwide learning expectations as they to pertain to the senior; technology requirements; community service work; research regarding future work or education; written future goals; and a final presentation with follow-up feedback.
Vocational Involvement – Many seniors have sought outside summer employment which they may choose to carry into their senior year. Some enroll in vocational programs for a portion of their day or week. Others will have instruction in job preparation.
Preparations for the Future – As seniors consider their future goals, they may also begin achieving their goals. Goal activities may include college visits; college applications; shadowing trades people or persons in careers; career research; job applications and interviews; vocational assessments; transition plans, and more.
CAHSEE and High School Graduation Requirements – Seniors meet with counselors and school administrators early in their high school years to be sure they are on track to graduate. They must document their district graduation requirements; sit for the High School Exit Exam, if required, and maintain the appropriate grade point average.
School Leadership – As time and aptitude permit, seniors are often called upon to be involved with other students as role models, mentors, tutors, program assistants, and more. Not only does this provide a service to the school, it also provides seniors with leadership opportunities for future growth.
Graduation Speeches – Many seniors are involved in preparing graduation speeches for the end of the year activities. These speeches provide more opportunities for seniors to apply skills and knowledge they have learned in school.
Senior Trip – Every year EA seniors meet with their advisors to plan the class trip. Some years they choose to travel to the east coast. Some years they prefer to explore their own great state. No matter where they travel, they can always be sure of an interest experience.
